Changes in medical malpractice laws: IL and WV
Under mew medical malpractice laws, the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation will double the number of malpractice investigators on staff and will develop a website offering information about doctors and malpractice. The laws also set a cap on noneconomic damages in malpractice cases and encourage doctors to settle cases rather than go to court.
In West Virginia, the Board of Risk and Insurance Management will be reducing malpractice premiums by more than half for staff physicians at two university schools of medicine.
