Qualified medication administration persons (QMAPs) are unlicensed individuals who help people take medication. QMAPs undergo training and evaluation by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and are allowed exemptions to the Medical Practice Act, the Nurse Practice Act, and the Uniform Controlled Substances Act of 1992. There is no associated regulatory or disciplinary activity. 2008 Sunset Review: Administration of Medications by Unlicensed Persons recommends continuing the QMAP program, removing it from the sunset review calendar, and requiring employers to document that their QMAP employees pass the competency evaluation at least every five years.
