The Iowa Public Information board was created to investigate citizens' complaints about governmental agencies violating open records and meetings laws. Budget and issues about funding the board are still being considered in the legislature. Bills are also being considered that would allow the Public Information board access to recordings and transcripts from closed government meetings without need of a court order. The Iowa Attorney General's Office has raised concern that this would discourage licensing board members from freely expressing their opinions during deliberations.
