The Association of Social Work Boards has published a report regarding social work practice mobility. ASWB's Regulatory Education and Leadership Committee hosted a conference in May to consider the profession's readiness for mobility and how to achieve mobility. The report discusses topics such as regulating e-practice, supervision standards as a barrier to mobility, legal implications, and equivalency standards and international mobility. Pharmacy, physicians, nurses and psychologists were considered as models for mobility. The conference concluded that the social work profession needs to "be leaders in the process to resolve issues around mobility, because if we don't, politicians will do it."
Related, California recently became the 50th state to join ASWB. Beginning in January 2016, the California Board of Behavioral Science will use ASWB's social work clinical exam in addition to their California-specific exam covering California law.
