Legislation passed in Australia will lead to the establishment of the Paramedicine Board of Australia. Board members will initially be appointed by the Health Ministers, and registration of paramedics is expected to begin in mid-2018. Other approved amendments to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law include the recognition of nursing and midwifery as two separate professions, expansion of the criteria to allow a National Board to take immediate action against a practitioner in the public interest, and other changes to strengthen disciplinary enforcement powers of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and the National Boards.
