New legislation in Arizona will establish licensure for dental therapists. A dental therapist will be authorized to perform 80 of the 435 procedures performed by a general dentist. Practice wil be under the supervision or collaborative agreement of a dentist. The new law is intended to increase access to dental care in underserved areas. Alaska and Minnesota already allow dental therapists.
