A group of US paramedics have established the American Paramedic Association and released a Paramedic Manifesto stating goals of "professionalizing paramedic practice across America and to ensuring the safety of the public we serve while promoting the advancement of the profession through autonomy and self-regulation." The Manifesto defines paramedic's scope of practice and minimum educational standards and states a goal of national paramedic certification and standards through a to-be-established College of Paramedics. The Manifesto states that Professional American paramedics who are nationally certified and members of the College of Paramedics should be granted licensure for independent practice by all states and jurisdictions.
