The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards established a Futures Collaborative in 2017 to explore how challenges and opportunities will impact the architecture profession in the future. The research phase continues, but preliminary reports note three technologies that will have an impact on the profession: generative design, computational analysis, and automation. The Collaborative notes that "technology has the potential to fully automate functions related to [public] health and safety," thus allowing future architects to focus more on welfare. This shift could impact architect education, experience, and examination requirements.
