A bill awaiting the Governor's signature in North Carolina would establish a provisional license for out-of-state licensed funeral directors seeking to practice in North Carolina. Applicants would be required to have an undergraduate degree, an Associate of Applied Science, or a diploma in funeral directing; be at least 18 years old and of good moral character; and have a certified resident traineeship or at least five years of experience under supervision of a licensed funeral director. The provisional license would be valid for one year and could be renewed up to two times. During that time, if the licensee successfully passes the North Carolina jurisprudence exam and the board-approved entry exam in funeral directing, the applicant would be granted a North Carolina full funeral director license.
