The chief executive of NHS England has announced a probable change in professional regulatory rules that would allow pharmacists to become licensed as doctors after receiving additional training. The NHS has committed to increasing Health Education England's continuing professional development budget. NHS representatives expressed at a recent conference the need for the organization to become "more flexible, more permeable" and provide "more routes into training" in order to address workforce shortage. They noted the opportunity to introduce changes once the UK is not part of EU professional regulation rules.
