Acupuncturists are not currently regulated in Nova Scotia. Instead, four professional associations - the Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of Nova Scotia (ATCMANS), the Nova Scotia Association of Acupuncturists (NSAA), the Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Association of Canada, Nova Scotia chapter (NS-CMAAC), and the Maritime Association of Registered Acupuncturists (MARA) - oversee standards and rules for their own members. A spokesperson for the Nova Scotia Association of Acupuncturists indicates that the four groups are supportive of provincial regulation, including a licensing exam, a process for addressing complaints and misconduct, and a requirement for insurance.
