A bill under consideration in Michigan would allow the state to become a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact, allowing for mobility and license recognition for nurses among the other member states.
Washington is considering a proposal to join the Compact as well. One issue of concern is the lack of data about how many nurses are practicing under a Compact license. An amendment may include a requirement for all employers of nurses to report to the state how many of their nurses are practicing under a Compact license.
Guam is also considering a bill to join the Compact, with supporters hoping increased mobility would help Guam's nursing shortage. Opponents fear the opposite - that it would make it easier for nurses to leave Guam to practice elsewhere.
