HB3401, Licensed Certified Professional Midwife Practice Act, has passed in the Illinois House and moves to the Senate. The definition of midwifery specifically refers to low-risk pregnancy and excludes the practice of nursing and medicine. The bill would require applicants to be certified by the North American Registry of Midwives and complete a postsecondary midwifery education program. The bill would create the Illinois Midwifery Board.
