The North Carolina House has passed a bill to enter the Licensed Counselor Interstate Compact. Georgia and Maryland have already approved the Compact, and legislation is also pending in Tennessee and Nebraska. The Compact would go into effect once ten states join it. Member states in the Compact must license and regulate licensed professional counselors, require a nationally recognized exam, and require a master's degree in counseling for counselors. Any complaints or discipline against a practitioner in a member state would have to be reported to the Counseling Compact Commission.
