Based on a proposal from Indiana Governor Mike Pence, Indiana Senate Bill 520 would have automatically “sunsetted” licensing requirements for a range of occupations, from real estate agents to cosmetologists. The bill will not be presented for committee vote due to disagreement in language and which professions would be included and a resolution is unlikely before the end of the legislative session. De-regulation legislation has stalled each of the last two years in the Indiana legislature despite continued efforts from the Governor’s office. Governor Pence’s “Roadmap for Indiana” calls for the creation of the ERASER Committee (for “Eliminate, Reduce And Streamline Employee Regulation”) with the express purpose of reducing the number of occupational licenses.
